In 2012, a total of 8,555 metric tonnes of pesticides (active substances) were sold in Sweden, which is a decrease by 3 tonnes compared with the previous year. The main part (71 per cent) was sold to industry, mainly for wood treatment with pressure and vacuum techniques.

The annual amount of sold quantities is strongly affected by the demands for creosote-impregnated wood, particularly for export purposes.

In agriculture including horticulture, sales figures increased with 29 tonnes to 1,813 tonnes and account for 21 per cent of the total sold quantities. Sold quantities to forestry, agriculture and horticulture have changed very little during the last 20 years.

Households use accounts for about eight per cent of all pesticides.

Household use of pesticides is dominated by products against moss, which are  weedkillers.

Seed dressings, fungicides, weedkillers and insecticides are used mainly in agriculture, which accounts for about 20 per cent of pesticide use.

Household use of pesticides is dominated by weedkillers, i.e. products against moss. The total quantity of pesticides sold to households was 674 tonnes in 2012.
